Product Description
The PanaVise 513 series connector base plate is an accessory that is specifically designed to quickly and accurately create D-sub (D-subminiature) connections at the ends of cables and wires when used with the PanaVise 502 PanaPress and the PanaVise 506 IDC retrofit kit (both sold separately and required for use). Use of these combined components is an example of insulation displacement connection (IDC) technology, an invaluable tool for independent repair technicians and in-house service departments in a variety of industry sectors, including computer networking, telephony, and electronics. To create the required wire and cable transitions, the 506 IDC retrofit kit is mounted to the PanaPress 502 PanaPress, and the 513 series connector base plate is placed in the central opening. A D-sub connector and its corresponding cable or wire (both sold separately) are brought together in the groove of the base plate directly under the ram adapter of the 506 IDC retrofit kit which evenly distributes the downward pressure of the PanaPress ram element, permanently connecting the wire and connector and creating a D-sub termination at the cable's end. Insulation displacement connector (IDC) technology is designed around the application of internally bladed connectors to the ends of wires and cables that are then used to complete circuits used in low current applications. This efficient and time-saving method replaces earlier circuit connection methods that required stripping wires and soldering on connections. Connectors used in IDC applications are specific to wire types and gauges. When compressed, the internal blades in connectors pierce the insulation of the wire or the cable, making contact with the wire inside, maintaining conductivity through a combination of direct pressure and the vacuum that compression creates between the conductive material and the connector's blade.
